🔥 ChatGPT Tips Tuesday #13: Unleash that Plugin Magic

Using these helpful Plugins to supercharge what you can do with ChatGPT

đź’ˇ ChatGPT Tips for the day

Plugins allow you to do more with ChatGPT. Search that special power you need and you might find it in the Plugin store now.

Thanks to all the people who voted in the last issue. By popular demand, I am going to talk about my top 3 plugin choices based on my recent usage.

At the time of publishing this issue, the plugins are still only available for ChatGPT Plus users, hence you do need to pay to get them. I haven’t found out when Plugins would be available for all users at this stage. I hope that could be available for all soon.

Before using the plugins

Just in case you are not aware of how to set up plugins yet, here is what you do, click on your profile on the bottom left → click “settings” → click “Beta features” to see the toggle to turn on Plugins, you should see the following screen if you follow this step 👇️

Once you have enabled Plugins, whenever you are going to create a new chat, you can hover your mouse around the GPT-4 option to see that you can enable Plugins for the chat.

Once you have clicked the Plugins option you would see the little dropdown that would allow you to select what Plugin(s) to use for your chat. You can choose up to 3 Plugins for each chat.

Now, if you use Plugin for the first time, would see no Plugin in the dropdown that is because you would need to “install” Plugin before you can use it. To figure out what to “install”, you would need to visit the Plugin store. The good news is that OpenAI has implemented a quick search bar so that you can find the Plugin that matches your search term the best looking at both the name and the description of the Plugin.

Now onto the main thing for today, my top 3 picks so far

1st - Wolfram

Wolfram is a great tool if you need to find out specific data about real life. You can then use that data for some sort of calculation. See the example chat below 👇️

By clicking on the drop-down for “Used Wolfram” you can see the specific query that has been sent to Wolfram for processing:

We also know that ChatGPT is not always the best with detailed calculations. You are in luck, Wolfram also works great for some calculations as well. See this example 👇️

2nd - WebPilot

Have you been frustrated with the constant failure of accessing web content from web browsing? Now you can try WebPilot to access the data to answer questions from content from the web. The following is a good example where I ask the Plugin to view the Tree of Thoughts research paper and answer some questions👇️

Based on my try, I find it can access the data way faster than the normal web browsing plugin as well, which is a great bonus. The only downside is that it can’t give you the reference in the answer.

3rd - ChatWithVideo

Do you ever feel you don’t have the time to watch a YouTube and you are dying to know what the video is about? Rather than go with 2x speed of playback, you can try ChatWithVideo to ask questions about the YouTube video to get an answer.

The magic of ChatWithVideo comes from its ability to get the transcript of the video and then use some GPT magic to answer the question you have based on the transcript. See a real-life example below 👇️

Alright, these are the top 3 Plugins I can think of so far. If you have any questions regarding the 3 I have mentioned or for any other Plugins, feel free to drop me a message at [email protected] or hit me up on my Twitter @AnInquisitiveMd.

🔤 Word of the day

API

n. stands for Application Programming Interface. Let's use a restaurant as an analogy to understand what is an API.

Imagine you're at a restaurant. You're at your table and you want to order food. The problem is, you don't have direct access to the kitchen or the cooks who can prepare your food. So, how do you get your food? You use a waiter.

You look at the menu, choose what you want, and tell the waiter. The waiter takes your order, goes to the kitchen, tells the cooks what you want, and they start preparing it. Once the food is ready, the waiter brings it to your table.

In this analogy, you're an app, the kitchen is another service or software application, and the waiter is an API.

An API is like the waiter. It's a messenger that takes requests, tells the system what you want to do, and then returns the response back to you. Just like a waiter, it communicates between different software applications, allowing them to interact with each other.

For example, when you use an app like Facebook, it's connecting to the internet and sending data to a server. The server then retrieves that data, interprets it, performs the necessary actions, and sends it back to your phone. The app then interprets that data and presents you with the information you wanted in a readable way. This is all done through an API.
