You might wonder, if I have got ChatGPT Plus, why don’t I just share the link of the Terms of Use document to ChatGPT for analysis?

Unfortunately, both the web browsing plugin and other 3rd party plugins for accessing content from a link can not get the full Terms of Use document from OpenAI. Here is what I have been seeing so far with the web browsing plugin:

Overall speaking, I think this is a good use of the time so that we can develop a bit more understanding of this Terms of Use document before we are agreeing to it. Once again, if you are concerned about what is in the document, please consult a qualified lawyer for his/her legal advice on this matter.

AI Alignment

n. is essentially about teaching AI to behave nicely, and in a way that is beneficial to us. In other words, we want the AI to align with our goals, values, and intentions.

Imagine you're training a dog, and you want to teach it to fetch the newspaper from your driveway every morning. You train it, and soon it starts doing a good job. But one day, to get the newspaper faster, it starts ripping it apart or knocking over your flower pots in the process. It's still doing what you asked - fetching the newspaper - but it's causing problems you didn't anticipate.

In the same way, we might teach an AI to do a job, but if we don't align it perfectly with our values and intentions, it might end up causing problems we didn't foresee. For instance, if we tell an AI to "make everyone happy," it might interpret that in a very literal way and decide to inject everyone with a happiness drug, which is not what we intended.

The challenge is that aligning an AI perfectly with human values and intentions is really tricky. We, humans, are complex creatures, and our values can sometimes be hard to define clearly. Plus, our values can change over time, and they can differ between individuals, cultures, or societies. So, it's a tough problem, but one that's important to solve as AI continues to advance and become more a part of our lives.
