By popular demand, we are going to explore the Stylize parameters within Midjourney this week.

Before the exploration, I thought this parameter works similarly to the Chaos parameter where the generated outputs would be quite different based on the provided numerical parameter.

As always, if you are after a detailed explanation of this and some examples about the Stylize parameter, you can check Midjourney’s documents.

Now, let’s see some examples:

With both examples, I see the most important difference is the lighting used in the created images. If the parameter is turned to 0, you can see the lighting is quite bland. When it is turned to 1000, which is also the maximum you can go with this parameter, the lighting would become more fitting with the scenario. Also, if you look closely, I can see the details are much richer when the parameter is higher.

While, since this parameter is all about styles, I think it would make sense to also try a prompt more related to a painting instead of a photo. Hence, I have also tried the following example:

I feel this one has a bit more variety when the parameter is low, however, when the parameter is above 500, the result is quite similar. I guess the difference is mostly in the finer details.

Cool, so in conclusion, this is what I found with playing with the same seed:

• Stylize works differently compared with Chaos: Chaos helps you see variations in the four images that are generated while Stylize modifies all four images at once.

• Stylize and add more details when a higher parameter is set: Finer details are added to the generated images if the parameter is higher.

Similarly, there is also a term called “Blue hour”. It refers to the period shortly before the magic hour at sunrise or after it at sunset. During this time, the remaining sunlight takes on a mostly blue shade.
