Following the parameter exploration idea, today, I am going to discuss the aspect ratio setting, i.e. --ar.

If you have been creating images for social media or website designs, you are likely quite familiar with the concept of the aspect ratio. It is a ratio calculated using the image’s width divided by the height and it is usually represented in a fraction-like format, i.e. 4:3, 16:9.

To me, the rule to determine the aspect ratio is to understand where you would like to showcase the AI art. If it is in a presentation type of thing, then a high width and low height ratio, like 16:9 would be preferred. If it is shared on a mobile social media platform, given we are all familiar with the TikTok scrolling mechanism and their aspect ratio for the video, you might want to try something with a low width and high height ratio, like 9:16.

Alright, on to my favourite time, i.e. example time. Check the images I have generated below 👇️ 

According to Midjourney, we can now do high-width images, i.e. above 16:9, hence I have also tried them a bit.

It looks like it can handle quite comfortably with 2:1, but if it is above it, some black bar would appear or some weird composition of the multiple images could appear as well.

As shown above, it is quite simple to add the aspect ratio setting. Now figure out your ideal aspect ratio for your AI art and start creating!

n. is the presentation of visual elements in an image, especially the placement of the subject in relation to other objects. It is a common term used in visual arts and specifically in cinematography a lot, hence this is something that people like to reference in their AI art prompt as well.
