💡 AI Art Tips for the Day

Based on popular demand from last week’s poll, I will try to use Midjourney to generate some old-timey photos.

As usual, I got the inspiration from the following image from Facebook:

So this image is pretty cool, let’s try to recreate that. Here is my plan of attack:

• Use /describe with this image

• Look through the descriptions to find some likely keywords for the prompt

• Play with the prompts to locate those golden keywords

• Profit!

Let's go through them step by step then. Here are the /describe results I can see:

Just to quickly test the prompts it generated, let’s see what images they can generate:

Other than the first prompt, it does look like the others do not fit the style I would like to see. I do want to see faded photos like in the original image.

Then I was thinking, can I try to use /describe again to get different prompts? Apparently, you can:

It is interesting the prompts it generates are now different to the first time, let’s see if it can generate some images like what we want:

I think this time the results are much better. From those two sets of prompts generated, I have found a couple of keywords that appear a lot, i.e. what I have highlighted in the generated prompts above. Eventually, after testing a bit, I found the following prompt structure should work:

[the main object] in the style of contemporary vintage photography, pictorialism

Let’s see if this works:

a man standing next to his pet elephant in the style of contemporary vintage photography, pictorialism

a family sitting on the couch in the style of contemporary vintage photography, pictorialism

Looks like the prompt is working, especially if there are not that many people in the picture. Now, feel free to give this prompt template a try to see if it works for some main objects you have in mind. Share the picture you created with us!
