🖌️ AI Art Tips Thursday #21: Name your usual parameters!
Using custom option to reuse the same parameters with ease
💡 AI Art Tips for the Day
By popular demand, I am going to explore Custom Preferences in Midjourney.
As usual, here is the official doc from Midjourney about this setting: https://docs.midjourney.com/docs/settings-and-presets#:~:text=Reset%20Settings-,Custom%20Preferences,-Create%20custom%20options.
For today, my key focus would be the custom option within Custom Preferences as I feel that is the most valuable part. In short, the custom option would allow you to easily reuse some parameters using a specific name to call upon them. Kinda like creating your own special parameter.
To use the custom option feature, you would need to set one first. To do that, you would need to use /prefer option set. From Midjourney, it would look like below:

From that, you would set the name of your list of parameters, you can use something that makes sense to you so that you can easily recall it. For the test, I have gone with “banner” as I want to use this custom option to create a banner for my newsletter.
The next thing you need to do is to set the parameters. You need to click on the +1 more to set that. It would look like below:

For the parameters, I have gone with --ar 16:9 --c 50 --weird 25 as my plan is to get a banner. Hence, the aspect ratio needs to be a bit high and I have added some level of chaos and weirdness to spice things up.
Once you have hit enter from that input, you would see a message from Midjourney stating that the custom option is ready to go:

Now, we can use our newly created custom option.
Let’s see what happens if I just provide Midjourney with /imagine a house --banner:

It would simply translate that option name into the list of parameters. The following is the result of this prompt:

Pretty cool, looking exactly as I am expecting.
In summary, I find the custom option to be quite useful and time-saving. If you find yourself repeating the parameters quite often with your Midjourney prompting, you should certainly give the custom option feature a try!
