By popular demand, we will explore prompting with an image within Midjourney this week.

You can also prompt with an image via the /describe function. It creates 4 possible prompts that could generate the image you have created. This is a great way if you want to see what prompts are used and mix & match for your use case. Use an image as part of the prompt

Well, to do this, you need to get your image online so there is a URL for it.

If you don’t have that ready, you can always rely on Midjourney (well, in this way, it mostly uses the Discord function). See this in action:

1. Click the plus sign to upload an image file

2. Once the image is uploaded, right-click it to copy the URL of the image

And now, you have got your “ingredient” for the prompt. Next thing, just paste the URL in the /imagine prompt and add additional text prompt and parameters as you like.

I have used The Great Wave off Kanagawa, let’s see what the generations could look like 👇️ 

As you can see, the image does share the same style to a certain extent, which is great. In addition, I feel the medium that the image is painted over has also got the same texture as the provided image.

Cool, so in conclusion, this is what I found by playing with the prompting with images:

• Prompting directly with an image allows the art generation to take up the style of the image.

Sgraffito

n. is a painting technique where you apply layers of colours, usually plaster or pottery, and then scratch off parts of the top layer to reveal the colour beneath. It's like drawing on a scratch-off lottery ticket, but with art. You create a design by revealing contrasts between the layers.

Also, this is an image using this technique. Pretty cool I must say.
