Amazon joins the race, Elon's move to compete with OpenAI and more

🌯 Wrap for the week
A close look at all the main headlines in AI
Look who has joined the AI race?! Hint: it offers things from A to Z.
The AI race is heating up with one more big contender, Amazon.
Amazon Web Services (AWS) has launched Amazon Bedrock, a service that enables customers to build generative artificial intelligence (AI) powered apps with AI models from third-party startups hosted on AWS.
The new service offers pre-trained models from firms such as AI21 Labs, Anthropic, and Stability AI. It also gives access to Titan FMs, a suite of models trained in-house by AWS.
Unlike ChatGPT from OpenAI, AWS claims that Bedrock is for large customers that are building "enterprise-scale" AI apps. Bedrock is in a "limited preview" and AWS hasn't announced its formal pricing.
Other than Bedrock, Amazon also announces CodeWhisperer. By the name of the tool, you might have guessed this tool is quite similar to GitHub Copilot. Yes, it helps developers to complete the code to make coding more efficient.

Once an OpenAI cofounder, now a competitor?
Elon Musk has reportedly incorporated a new company focused on AI, called X.AI. Musk is listed as the director and Jared Birchall, the director of Musk’s family office, is listed as the secretary.
Reports suggest that Musk has been buying thousands of graphics processing units (GPUs) to power an upcoming generative AI product, leading to speculation about an AI firm competing with Microsoft-backed OpenAI.
Musk co-founded OpenAI in 2015 but walked away from it in 2018 and recently signed a letter calling for a pause on "giant AI experiments."
The new company will compete in an AI space that has become increasingly competitive in recent months, with major technology companies such as Google and Microsoft integrating AI tools more deeply into their products.
Also, this is what Sam Altman’s thought about the news:

Other top AI headlines for the week
Well, progress in expanding GPT-4’s capability is still happening by the sound of it but it won’t be going to GPT5 straightaway. Maybe GPT-4.5 could be the next release?
Hear it directly from Sam Altman from OpenAI:
Spain’s privacy watchdog says it’s probing ChatGPT too from TechCrunch
OpenAI has yet again got “in trouble” with another European government. Although not at the level of a suspension, it does sound like The Spanish Data Protection Agency is going to look into ChatGPT carefully.

At the time of publishing the newsletter, I can only see a preview of the chat but not the specific AI tech. Text-to-video is always an interesting area as video is a much more engaging medium nowadays. I am curious about what else is in Google’s AI pipeline. 🤔

1. 📺️ Yann LeCun and Andrew Ng: Why the 6-month AI Pause is a Bad Idea
Although not necessarily this week, if you have seen the open letter for the pause, you might be interested to explore the opposite side of the argument.
2. 🔧 AgentGPT
If you have seen those videos about AI tackling the proposed problem or achieving a goal in a step-by-step fashion by utilising different tools, you might be interested to try that out via AgentGPT.
3. 🔧 Open Assistant
In simple terms, this is basically ChatGPT but open source. I still haven’t received my link to log in to try yet. Let’s see if this is enough to persuade me to drop the subscription with ChatGPT.

💕 Share the love and get some cool avatars!
I hope you have been enjoying the Prompt Craftsman newsletter so far. If you do, why not share your love of the newsletter with your friends as well? 😉 If you are sharing the love, I should do something in return to share my gratitude. That is why, I have decided that I will randomly select 3 subscribers each week who have got at least 3 of his/her friends to join the newsletter that week and provide them with 3 cool avatars.
For the lucky chosen subscribers, I will create these avatars using the portrait photo(s) you give me in 3 different styles of your nominations. You can suggest styles either using some image(s) you like and/or some descriptive text. If you have heard Lensa before, it is the same concept, but free of charge with the Prompt Craftsman! 😄
I won’t promise to get the same level of detail, but the end result could be similar to the ones below.

Alright, if you are in, here is your link to share your love of the Prompt Craftsman with your friends. You are the best! ❤️
That is it for the week! Until I see you next time, stay awesome my friend!
Cheers,
Minjie
