Llama 2, Custom instructions and more

π― Wrap for the week
A close look at all the main headlines in AI
Meta is giving away its AI tech to try to beat ChatGPT from TheVerge
Meta is continuing its effort to push forward with developing open-source LLMs and this time it has also got in between the existing relationship between Microsoft and OpenAI. Not sure how OpenAI would think about this partnership deal? Microsoft now seems to have quite a large lead in the AI race.
Also, if you want to try Llama 2, you can do it here and compare it with GPT-3.5 at the same time: https://sdk.vercel.ai/
ChatGPT can now remember who you are and what you want from TheVerge
Thanks to ChatGPTβs new feature, Custom instructions, there is finally some sort of concept of memory you can store within ChatGPT. If you find yourself repeatedly adding some similar instructions in your prompts with ChatGPT, this could be one way to save time with prompting in the future. As always with this type of power-up, this feature is reserved for the Plus account users for now. The following is Sam Altmanβs Custom instructions setting:

Google is testing an AI tool that can write news articles from TechCrunch
News generated by AI is not new at all as several publishers, such as CNET and AP, have tried that already and backfired big time. I am curious how Google could navigate this delicate issue with the new tool, Genesis. Assistance vs replacement would be the question regarding the what is the true end goal of such an AI news creation tool.
Logically, xAI would be trying to use the tweets for training. But I am not too sure about the quality of the results.
Apple is testing a ChatGPT-like AI chatbot from TechCrunch
Although AI the word is not mentioned in WWDC, it does look like Apple is still keen to get on this AI bandwagon though. Maybe the ChatGPT app download and usage data got Apple interested? Anyway, I am curious to test AppleGPT soon.
So I have changed how the news is shown above, what do you think about it? |
π¬οΈ Guess that movie
Adding a bit of fun to your weekend reading, letβs guess the famous movie from the 10-emoji description created by ChatGPT:

If it is a bit hard to figure out, you can find the answer with some explanation from ChatGPT at the end of this newsletter.
π§° Toolbox
Check out this weekβs tools and resources that give you more superpowers with prompt crafting!
1. ποΈ How is ChatGPTβs Behavior Changing over time?
You might have heard some news or tweets talking about how GPT-4 is getting dumber. Well, they are mostly based on this paper. It does show some surprising results regarding how GPT-4 seems to be performing worst off on the mathematic questions. However, we do also hear other people sharing concerns about this declined capability claim: https://www.aisnakeoil.com/p/is-gpt-4-getting-worse-over-time.
In the meantime, we have also the official statement from OpenAI about this rumour:
No, we haven't made GPT-4 dumber. Quite the opposite: we make each new version smarter than the previous one.
Current hypothesis: When you use it more heavily, you start noticing issues you didn't see before.

2. ποΈ On the Origin of LLMs: An Evolutionary Tree and Graph for 15,821 Large Language Models
Well, first of all, I didnβt realise that we have that many LLMs on HuggingFace now. The researchers behind this paper did a dump of all the LLMs on HuggingFace and try to find out what are their origins. Other than the gigantic circular graph, they also made a nifty tool that allows you to explore further if you want: https://constellation.sites.stanford.edu/
3. π§ Promp
This is another marketplace for prompts. If you are looking to find one for yourself or want to sell some of your prompts, you should check it out.
