The WWDC, the jail-free card from Japan and more

🌯 Wrap for the week
A close look at all the main headlines in AI
Why AI is not mentioned in Apple’s WWDC?
Other than the $3000 plus price tag for the Vision Pro, the most intriguing thing for me from the WWDC keynote is the lack of AI.

Well, it looks like Chris from Mashable has a good theory about it 👇️
Redefining the 'cool': While the Silicon Valley soccer teams are chasing after the AI-ball, Apple’s at the sidelines, practising its machine learning dribbles. But no, don't call it AI. They're making “Transformers” cool again.
Shield before the sword: In a world where 'AI' can trigger so much fear. Apple's playing the protector. Apple is more into building walls than opening gates when it comes to AI's potential risks. Apple's looking to sell you security, not an AI-first product. No need for fancy AI labels when the company's banking on privacy and device superiority.
Avoiding the Hype: Apple tends to take its time with new technologies. This allows it to launch more polished, user-friendly, fan-craving products. By not hyping up AI, the company avoids falling into the trap of overpromising and underdelivering, the usual pitfall often encountered in the rapidly evolving field of AI.
Well, although saying the above, there are tons of AI-related features announced, e.g. tracking in the Vision Pro, better autocorrect suggestions, etc. To get a good look at them, check out this article from ZDNet: AI was all over Apple's WWDC. It was just running in the background
If you are also interested in what is Mr Zuckerberg’s thought on the Vision Pro, here is a snippet from his interview with Lex Freidman:
Just one last thing on the Vision Pro, the pricing approach for it reminds me of the secret Tesla master plan. Not sure if this is close to what Tim Cook is thinking as well.
Not so sure about the equivalent for point 4 though, what do you think?

Copyright, who?
Unlike what is happening in the West, Japan's getting a bit like "Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift" with their AI copyright laws.

In a bid to push AI progress, Japan has controversially announced it won't enforce copyrights on data used in AI training. This bold move is part of Japan's ambitious plan to lead in AI technology, and some believe it may significantly boost Japan's GDP.
The decision, however, has sparked concern amongst artists fearing AI could devalue their work. Globally, Japan's actions could stir regulatory debates, showing a top economy ready to forgo typical restrictions to thrive in the AI realm.
Now that's one way to break the ice at the G-7 summit!

OpenAI sued for defamation after ChatGPT fabricates legal accusations against radio host from The Verge
This could be the first defamation case for ChatGPT.
No matter what the outcome is from this case, this would have huge implications on how the content generated from ChatGPT can be used in the future. I will keep my eyes out for this one for sure.
Google and Facebook urged by EU to label AI-generated content from The Guardian
Personally, I am all for this type of labelling suggestion. Not everyone is tech-savvy enough to detect the fakes, just look at what happened with those pope-with-Balenciaga-style images.
Also, if you have made images from Midjourney or any other art generation platform, you would be amazed at how realistic those outputs could be.
I think this is a way to get more transparency and instil more trust in AI.
ChatGPT comes to iPad, adds support for Siri and Shortcuts from TechCrunch
I haven’t got to play much with ChatGPT on my iPhone yet but it is good to know the option to link with Siri and Shortcuts is available. However, just in case you haven’t been able to use the ChatGPT app and you still want to connect ChatGPT with your iPhone, you should check my previous post about the method: https://www.promptcraftsman.co/p/chatgpt-tips-7

🧰 Toolbox
Check out this week’s tools and resources that give you more superpowers with prompt crafting!
1. 📺️ More short courses from Deep Learning for AI
Deep learning is pushing ahead with getting more people educated about AI and I am loving it!
This is offered for free for a limited time only so go through them before they are hidden behind the paywall. Personally, I am keen on the LangChain course.
2. 🔧 ClipDrop
Generative fill has been all the craze these couple of weeks. If you don’t have a subscription to Photoshop and want to give that concept a go, try this tool. It is completely free and it is from Stability.ai.
Look what I get from testing the thumbnail for this week 👇️

3. 🔧 Gen2 - Text to Video
This is really cool, you can now just see a video created by providing some prompt text. Plus, you can try this for free now. Here is my try with this prompt 👇️
a woman sitting on the sofa and watching a movie via her Apple Vision Pro AR headset
I have also uploaded an image of a woman wearing the new Apple Vision Pro headset to help with the video creation.
See what I can get from this simple prompt text and the image: https://runway-task-artifacts.s3.amazonaws.com/4519b43e-3f3f-4b1a-b452-f3cfb159a271.mp4
